I’ve had & been surrounded by very large dogs my entire life, mainly pitbulls, who are known for their powerful jaws and chewing power. Mia was my first ‘small dog’ – although I didn’t know how big or small she was going to be when I found her. But I kid you not when I say my 32 pound Mia can out-chew any other dog no matter what size or breed they are. I can give Marley (an 80+ pound blue nosed brindle pitbull) and Mia the same exact bully stick or bone and 9 times out of 10 Mia finishes first. So I’ve been on what seems to be a never ending quest to find a healthy, long lasting, natural dog treat and haven’t had much success. I refuse to buy any bones/chews that are manufactured in China due to the constant recalls of food, treats and bones from the region that have been shown to cause illness and unfortunately death in some dogs. I look at Chinese dog food/treats the same way I look at GMO’s (genetically modified crops) – they’re just bad and something I intend to keep my Mia and myself far away from.
So naturally I’ve tried everything – rawhide, bully sticks, Pedigree Jumbones, Purina Busy Bones, Nylabone Healthy Edibles bones and everything in between. The braided bully sticks are what lasted the longest. That is until last night when I wandered into Petsmart and noticed they started carrying this Himalayan Dog Chew – I had seen them before but the higher than normal price point turned me off. But last night I figured what the hell and shelled out the $15 or so for the treat. Today I went back to Petsmart and bought 6 more.
This chew truly is long lasting and Mia clearly loves the thing – and I love it because it has 3 ingredients, all of which I can pronounce and I know what the hell it is – unlike many other dog treats and chews. It contains yak and cow milk, salt and lime juice. The ingredients seems overly simplistic – but it works and lasts a long time. It ultimately lasted about 2 hours and 15 minutes – 1 1/5 to 2 times longer than the next closest chew (a large braided bully stick). Needless to say, I think I’ve found the best dog chew on the market and it is the Himalayan All Natural Dog Chew. Every dog owner, regardless of size, should be stocked up on these chews. They have the chews available for any sized dog, so there’s no excuse for you to not get it. It actually is cost effective (when looking at time it takes to complete the chew vs dollar amount), great for your dog and it keeps them entertained for quite a long time and definitely tires them out a bit.
